Ordinary ideas about self-determination of personality: Structure and phenomenology

The article is devoted to the description of ordinary ideas about phenomenon selfdetermination, which actively discussed in modern scientific literature. theoretical foundations for development concept “self-determination” and a multilevel complementary model this are presented. results empirical study common as way verification clarification its content was conducted using semi-structured interview, sample consisted 72 respondents (mean age — 23.7 (SD = 5.34; M0 21; Me 22)). It revealed that most had not heard self-determination before (63.9%), however, they can roughly describe content. Most often, when describing self-determination, there such characteristics self-understanding, selfdetermination self-knowledge; independence behavior; ability make decisions; control over one’s life; striving achievements; presence pronounced motivation action; awareness; well indications connection with concepts freedom, responsibility, reflection. consistent set processes an individual’s activity, distinguished by purposefulness, arbitrary regulation relative freedom from external factors. More than half (60%) consider themselves be self-determined people, other them self-determined, based primarily on their overcome life’s obstacles. Comparison data obtained developed showed concepts, it possible distinguish components all three levels model: meaningful (highest level), activity (middle spontaneous (basic level). Mostly, contain level, differentiating self-regulation point semantic accents self-determination: mature attitude responsibility building life.
